Biography

Edgar Tristán-Hernández  (San Luis Potosí, Mexico; 1979) is a sound artist/designer, guitarist and PhD in Acoustic Engineering based in Belgium.

Since he was a child he showed great interest in music and in the exploration of new sounds on different surfaces and natural phenomena.

He studied Electronic Engineering at the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, and later, hungry for more knowledge about the behavior of sound, he decided to travel to Madrid to study a Ph.D. in Acoustic Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He spent a research stay at Gent University (Belgium) and a postdoctoral period at the Institute for Research in Optical Communications (IICO) of the UASLP, Mexico. It was here where, together with the research group in non-linear systems, he was able to obtain sound signals derived from mathematical systems called Chaotic Systems. He was also able to obtain music composed by the system itself.

Although for work reasons he only dedicated himself to reporting the results of his research in a scientific way, he always sought to express the artistic and musical dimension of these.

That is why in 2018 he moves to Belgium and decides to leave behind his "scientific past" and go in the search of his biggest dream: Sound and musical design.

In 2020 he took part in the Open Design Course Lab 0.4 for refugees and asylum seekers, where he reaffirmed his passion for sound and its artistic expression.

Currently he is looking for new horizons around art, sound for film and looking to make science more human and less exclusive. Furthermore, he continues researching around the Chaos Theory and human behavior, and its representation with sound and light.
